Two Tips for Manufacturers Who Have Just Bought Their First Air Cannon

If you have decided that your manufacturing facility could benefit from an air cannon and have, as a result of this decision, just purchased this equipment, here are some suggestions that could be of use to you.

Take your time when positioning the air cannon in one of your chute system's openings

When your employees are setting up the air cannon in front of the chute system's opening, you must supervise this process and ensure that this equipment is positioned correctly. More specifically, you should have them align the section of the air cannon from which the air shoots out with the very centre of the chute entrance. The reason for this is as follows: if this section is not at the centre of the chute, the trajectory of the airstream that it produces will veer towards one side of the chute more than the other. This will mean that the materials on the side that is not being subjected to this airstream may remain stuck whilst the materials on the other side will be pushed along by this air.

This, in turn, may result in some materials sitting in the chute for a long time. If these materials have a short shelf life and are supposed to only be in the chute very briefly, they may spoil inside this system. If this happens, you will have to have your employees deep clean the chute, which could take a long time. As such, it's important not to let your staff rush through this task and to instead instruct them to take their time and readjust the air cannon's position as often as they need to until it is in the right spot.

Get a second air cannon if you have more than one chute system

After you have used the air cannon for a few weeks, you may begin to wonder how you managed without it. The ease with which it dislodges major blockages and the positive effect it has on the speed with which your facility's materials travel in the chutes will almost certainly make your manufacturing activities easier and much more efficient.

If you come to this realisation and you find yourself frequently moving your air cannon from one chute system to another (depending on which one needs to be unblocked or have the materials inside it pushed along a bit faster), then you should think about getting a second one.

This will mean that your staff will not have to spend time lugging this equipment from one chute to another (which, due to this equipment's weight, could be quite tiring) and no man-hours will be wasted repeatedly setting up and repositioning the air cannon. Additionally, the chances of the first air cannon being overused to the point where it dies prematurely will be much lower.
